Hello folks!
Today I decided to post something that can help you guys with your literature,
so here are few tips on how to write a character sketch, if you just brainstorm
on these points picking out a character then you can easily do the paragraphing
and be ready with your perfect character sketch.
However, there is one thing that you must not
forget about writing a character sketch. It is that a character sketch does not
deal with full details of the chosen character, instead it is just an over view
of your character, a short and interesting view. The average length of my
character sketches are about one or one and a half sheet of a fools scape
sheet.
I hope the
following information would help people who want to write a character sketch.
Always remember, just like reading is for all ages expressing out what they
read is also for all ages as well.
·
The
very first thing you should mention about your character in this character
sketch is his/her physical appearance (eyes, hair, nose, lips, height, etc.)
For e.g.: Miss
Pentila is a drama teacher for middle school children. She has icy blue eyes,
and mismatched legs because of polio, this makes Pentila limp when she walks.
She is very well dressed…
·
Next
you must add a little about the character’s nature and their likes and dislikes
if mentioned. From this point you should start giving a some evidence about the
character’s nature a few lines from the book maybe that show the character in
the way you’ve described.
For e.g.: Pentila likes to keep her composure and is
very to the point and strict. We can say this because whenever she enters;
Pentila slams the door shut behind her and begins with her lessons straight
off. However when a child does something really good she also praises them like
she praised Eliza for the good dramatic scream.
·
Then
you should tell about you character’s family a bit (Siblings, parents and a liitle
bit about the history, just a little bit)
·
Their
hobbies
·
And
finally what you think about the character, (the things you like about him/her
and the things that you dislike)
These are really useful for how to write a character sketch. Do you write them often? I've never written a character sketch, except when I was in school, when it was too boring. But this post makes me want to write one... Maybe I'll write about Harry Potter...
ReplyDeleteAnyways, this is really good. A suggestion for you: You can post some of the character sketches you wrote on you blog. And keep posting! :)
Yes Fatima I was about to do that, and I will inshallah. And writing about Harry Potter is a great idea, Ayan did it too.
DeleteAnyways thanks for the comment!
The points you've listed are really helpful for making a character sketch, Azka! I agree with you on all of them! Also, another point is, that all characters must have a flaw, or a couple even, so they're not too perfect. I was going to say you could post some of your character sketches (I'd love to see them!), but it looks like Fatima has already mentioned it! XD Do you write your own novels anyway? This is brilliant! Please keep posting more of these kind of things! :D
ReplyDeleteI like to write stories I even started a novel but I thought it was a drag and so I left it mid way, now I've lost the half that I wrote. Anyways, you're right that all characters should have a flaw, but see when you're writing a character sketch, it is pretty factual so if the author has not mentioned a flaw (pretty clearly) then we can not write it by ourseleves.
ReplyDeleteI am going to post a character sketch as soon as I get some time. :D Thanks for commenting!
